light

As a girl, I was aware of the light that I am. I felt it pulsing and radiating from within me. I loved her, and she loved me. As I grew, her gleam began to dim, even burning out for a short time. Upon her return, I saw a mere flicker, and wasn’t ready to trust her just yet.

For a 40th birthday present, I gave myself a Reiki Energy Healing session. I was craving something outside the stay-at-home-mom box (my newly pierced nose apparently wasn’t cutting it). During the session, I felt a shift in my body, mind, and spirit. They began working together to create some room in me. With the newfound space, my light returned to the size of my youth. I felt her reclaim her rightful throne. I gingerly began to follow her guidance, even when my mind was arguing each new pivot or path. The more I followed her the brighter she shown. She steered me to places I’d never dreamed of going, almost all within myself.

Because I can now sense my own inherent worth, I have the gift to see the same brilliance within all beings. My life’s work is to help others find their own light, by teaching Mindfulness and practicing Reiki. Planting seeds of inner resilience to our youth, and for the all the folks that seek it, makes my light super sparkly.

I’m 47 today. I see the wrinkles and the softer body, proverbial signs of middle age. The best gift of growing older? The wisdom and beauty radiating around me, sourced from deep within my internal light. I am her, and she is me. We are one, and life is good.

“For there is always light,

if only we’re brave enough to see it

If only we’re brave enough to be it”.

~Amanda Gorman
