i woke up yesterday morning & put on my wire bra for the first time in a month. lord knows i do not need the support, but i guess i wanted to feel it anyhow. i also put on a dress, heels & mascara to serve easter brunch on our rarely used china. everyone was thrilled.
it felt good to feel in control.
apparantly the correct bra can help with this illusion.
“you need to learn how to select your thoughts just the same way you select your clothes every day. this is a power you can cultivate. if you want to control things in your life so bad, work on the mind. that’s the only thing you should be trying to control.”
~ elizabeth gilbert
i’ve been thinking a lot about what i want to control when life resumes to a new normal & activities return one day.
there are many realms in my daily life i’d like to do different –
* like less structured time for my boys with more play time & life skills for them instead
*where i spend my money & who does it support & why it really does matter
* who i choose to spend time with & how & why
* how i am listening to & understanding & supporting those with less than myself find their best life, because we all deserve the opportunity to go for it – simply being born gives us this right
*what i am saying ‘no, this is not acceptable, i will not partake in this’ to – outloud – not just in my head
brene brown has taught me that clear is kind
& vulnerability is a beautiful state & boundaries are necessary.
“vulnerability is not about winning or losing. it’s having the courage to show up even when you can’t control the outcome.”
~brene brown
i will continue to return to her teachings
as i take this time to really hone in on
what values speak directly to me.
my intentions will follow accordingly.
i will be intentional & live purposefully.
it will be work.
the kind that requires a bra – sports or wire i suppose.
& it will be glorious & uncomfortable
& freeing & true to who i am.
& that is enough.
